Biography of Artist

Geoffrey Key is a painter who lives and works in the North West of England. He has an international following; his work is to be found in galleries and public and private collections worldwide. Geoffrey Key is widely regarded as one of the most important artists working in Britain today.

His work has been and is exhibited throughout the UK, Europe and the far East, as well as in the USA and Australia.
He was born in Manchester in 1941; his early education was at the High School of Art in the City from where he entered Manchester Regional College of Art in 1958. There he gained the National Diploma of Design, Diploma of Associateship of Manchester, Postgraduate in Sculpture, the Guthrie Bond Travelling Scholarship and the Heywood Medal in Fine Art.

On completion of his formal education, and having known his vocation since childhood, Key embarked upon his lifetime career as a painter and sculptor. His work had already begun to be acquired by private, corporate and public collectors and galleries; he has continued throughout successfully to build upon these early beginnings with his honest and straightforward approach.

He set out imbued with a number of basic principles, including being true to himself, avoiding artistic influence and fashion; and above all maintaining personal and artistic honesty and integrity.

These principles have endured and coupled with the vibrancy and love of life so evident in his work, have led to him developing a strong and loyal following amongst so many who enjoy, appreciate and collect fine art.
