Biography of Artist

Gordon Radford was born in 1936 in the industrial town of Manchester, England. Upon leaving school he worked as an industrial designer for several years and studied fine art and design at the Oldham School of Art.

In 1972 he was the winner of the Artist Magazine International and in 1975 was elected to
membership of the renowned Manchester Academy of Fine Art.

During the 1970′s Gordon became acquainted with Carl Cheek and Jack Patterson of the Royal College of Art, London, with whom he would go out to the industrial sites and
canals on Manchester and Salford. It was mainly industrial scenery that formed
the basis of Gordon’s earlier works, followed by gloriously rich and luminescent still life paintings.

Gordon was influenced in the 1980′s by the work of English artist Edward Seago and painted many Norfolk land and seascapes. During this period, Gordon’s primary inspirations after Norfolk were coastal scenes around the British Isles and his great
passion for Venice (which he would visit whenever circumstances would allow).
