Biography of Artist

“As a school boy I was asked by my art teacher one day if I had ever heard of Toulouse Lautrec? I said no, so she showed me his biography, I was blown away by the shear power of his graphic brushstrokes and his striking use of colour. It was from that day on I decided I had to follow my passion for the visual arts”.

Soaking up post-impressionist, pop and modern artist, and then studying a graphics degree in Sheffield, Anthony decided to follow a career in Advertising as an Art Director and Graphic Designer. His 30 year career to date has seen him win awards for his work both here in Manchester and London as well as abroad, but his main passion has always been for painting and in the last few years has developed from strength to strength, now being recognised as one of the “New talents” in the North West.

Originally working out of a collective artist’s studio in South Manchester, Anthony has spent the last 5 years finding his own voice, first experimenting with stencils, graphics and mixed media but always coming back to his passion for painting in oils, inspired by such artists as the London based, Antony Micallef and Conor Harrington, Sydney based artist, Ben Quilty and local northern hero Liam Spencer.

“I paint with a passion, almost anger, the experience is intense, powerful, vivid, verging on painful”. Bold lines, bright colours – whether its cityscapes of the Northern Quarter or still life of modern icons such as jar of Marmite, his work has been described as ‘postimpressionism meets pop art’. “I strive to give my all to the process and in return I hope I give the viewer a glimpse of the subjects essence. Its soul I guess”..
